Northern Samar's provincial government is working towards establishing the province as a top location for business process outsourcing (BPO) ventures.
The Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO) head, Jhon Allen Berbon, emphasized the timely nature of this action by pointing to continuous advancements in internet and mobile services in the province.
Working towards being a Smart City
Berbon also noted that the province is looking to make the town of Catarman a “Smart City” by enhancing its digital competency.
“Residents and businesses can anticipate reliable and high-speed internet connectivity. We are also in the process of preparing the compliance of Catarman town to the scorecards as a Smart City,” Berbon said.
A city or municipality is designated as a "Smart City" if it has completed the digital roadmap as mandated by the Department of Information and Communications Technology's (DICT) Digital Cities Program.
With the help of this program, towns will be able to flourish as centers of digital innovation, drawing in foreign capital and generating employment possibilities for Filipinos.
Partnership and development
Berbon noted that telecom operator Globe Telecom is actively collaborating with TowerCos to set up new cell sites in Northern Samar.
“This expansion is part of Globe’s commitment to meeting the data requirements of emerging industries, such as BPO companies that are looking to locate in the province,” he said.
Recently, the Northern Samar PEDIPO attended the Contact Islands 2024 Conference, which took place in Cebu.
