In Iloilo, bamboo bikes are taking the spotlight as one of the coolest ways to explore the city. Light, durable, and 100% handcrafted, these “Bambikes” made from bamboo are turning heads and paving the way for a more innovative and eco-friendly mode of transportation.

Forget noisy engines and traffic jams. Imagine cruising through tree-lined esplanades, breezing past heritage houses, and soaking in the sun, all while riding a bike that’s kind to the planet. It’s not just transportation; it’s an experience. Now in Iloilo, it’s becoming the ride of choice for tourists and locals alike.

Who knew the future of travel could be this fun, eco-friendly, and stylish?

From Vision to Velocity

The bamboo bike movement in the Philippines was pioneered by Bryan Benitez McClelland, a Filipino-American environmentalist and social entrepreneur who launched Bambike in 2010. What started as a passion project became a globally recognized green innovation, combining sustainable design with community impact.

Each Bambike is handmade by “Bambuilders”, skilled workers from Gawad Kalinga communities in the Philippines. The goal—to create eco-friendly bikes while empowering people through meaningful employment. Bamboo, a fast-growing and renewable material, proved to be both strong and sustainable and perfect for crafting world-class bicycles.

Now, these bikes have made their way to Iloilo, where they’re not just a product; they’re a symbol of a city embracing smart, sustainable tourism.
