The Western Visayas region is making waves in the global market for cruise tourism, bolstering its appeal and offerings for international travelers. Spearheaded by the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Western Visayas Regional Director Crisanta "Krisma" Marlene P. Rodriguez, the region is charting a course towards enhanced visibility and engagement in this dynamic industry.
Director Rodriguez recently showcased Western Visayas' tourism potential at Seatrade Cruise Global, held in Florida, United States. As part of the Philippine delegation, she represented the region in a 900-square foot pavilion designed to captivate attendees with an immersive journey through the Philippines' cruise tourism offerings and beyond.
Showcasing Boracay's Charm
The region is home to world-famous Boracay Island. Situated in Malay town, Aklan province, Boracay serves as a premier destination for international cruise liners, enticing travelers with its pristine shores and vibrant atmosphere. Visitors embark on an eight-hour adventure, exploring the expanse of white sand beaches, perusing charming souvenir shops, and indulging in delectable cuisine at the island's restaurants.
Promoting Eco-Tourism
Under Director Rodriguez's stewardship, DOT-6 is not only focused on cruise tourism but also prioritizes eco-tourism initiatives. One such endeavor is the Western Visayas International Open Water Swim, a four-leg swimming competition highlighting the region's diverse coastal and island destinations. The event–which will go through Boracay Island, Sipalay in Negros Occidental province, Sicogon Island in Carles town, Iloilo province, Taklong Island in Nueva Valencia town, and Guimaras province–showcases the region's commitment to sustainable tourism practices.
Charting a Sustainable Future
With its captivating destinations and proactive tourism initiatives, Western Visayas is poised to emerge as a leading player in the global cruise tourism market. Through collaborative efforts and a steadfast commitment to sustainability, the region continues to set sail towards a brighter, more prosperous future in the realm of international tourism.
