President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. took center stage on Monday, April 8 as he led the ceremonial energization of the Cebu-Negros-Panay sub-grids, a significant step towards resolving the persistent power supply issues in the Visayas region. The ceremony, held in Bacolod City, marks a pivotal moment in the efforts to boost energy sufficiency and sustainability in Negros and Panay Islands.
During the ceremony, Marcos emphasized the importance of strategic investment in the energy infrastructure of Negros and Panay. He urged energy stakeholders and private generators to seize the opportunity to contribute to the long-term development and self-sufficiency of the region.
Marcos also underscored the necessity for collaboration among government agencies, local government units, and private entities to expedite the implementation of energy projects. He emphasized the significance of streamlining permit issuance and facilitating right-of-way acquisition for transmission lines and distribution systems.
Milestone in Energy Resilience
The completion of the Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) 230-kV Backbone Project by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) represents a significant milestone in enhancing energy resilience and reliability. Marcos highlighted the project's role in overcoming power supply challenges that have hindered the economic progress of Negros and Panay sub-grids.
Propelling Socio-Economic Advancement
Marcos emphasized the crucial role of the CNP project in meeting the surging energy demands of Western and Central Visayas, home to approximately 16 million people. He highlighted the substantial economic contribution of these regions to the national economy and stressed the necessity of matching their power supply with their growing population and economic activities.
Project Overview
The P67.9 billion CNP 230-kV Backbone Project, comprising CNP1, CNP2, CNP3, and Negros-Panay Interconnection Project Line 2 (NPIP L2), aims to strengthen the grid and enhance power transmission reliability in Cebu, Negros, and Panay islands. The project will facilitate increased transfer capacity among these islands, enabling the dispatch of excess capacities from Mindanao to meet demand in the Visayas grid and accommodating the development of new power plants in the region.
NGCP: Ensuring Reliable Power
The NGCP, as the country's sole transmission service provider, plays a critical role in ensuring reliable and efficient electric power transmission. The corporation is committed to the continued development and maintenance of the country's power grids, thereby supporting economic growth and development across the Philippines.
