The Philippines has cemented its position as a top cruise tourism destination after receiving the prestigious Best Ports of Call 2024 title at the 10th Asia Cruise Awards, which were hosted during the Asia Cruise Forum in Jeju Island, Korea.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said the prize recognizes the work of cruise tourism stakeholders in reviving the country's cruise industry during the pandemic.

“These accolades reaffirm our vision and validate our efforts in positioning our country as a must-visit destination for cruise enthusiasts,” she said.

Excellence in cruise tourism

The Asia Cruise Awards acknowledge achievement in a variety of cruise industry areas, according to the DOT.

The Asia Cruise Forum encourages Asia's competitiveness in the global cruise market and honors industry excellence.

The Asia Cruise Leaders' Network, which consists of 74 member organizations from nine countries—of which the Philippines is now an observer—selects the recipients of the awards.

Continued improvement in the sector

Notably, the nation won the World Cruise Awards' Asia's Best Cruise Destination title in 2023.

The DOT also introduced the cruise visa waiver earlier this week, which facilitates entrance for foreign citizens who are obliged to have a visa and are visiting the Philippines aboard a cruise ship.

With an estimated 117 port calls in 2024, the Philippines continues to play a significant role in international cruise operations, providing 70,000 crew members and hospitality workers globally.
