A new PHP39.19 million coastal road improvement project now provides the municipality of Dumangas with quick access to the roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) port while also serving as a detour to other communities in northern Iloilo.
As part of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) project, the 5.13-kilometer section of the Iloilo City-Leganes-Dumangas Coastal Road was asphalted.
Vital link
This coastal route–which passes through the coastal municipalities of Dumangas, Leganes, and Iloilo City–is an essential transportation link, according to the DPWH.
“This coastal road serves as a vital transportation link that traverses through the coastal communities of Dumangas, Leganes, and Iloilo City,” it said.
“This national road is vital in providing better connectivity and accessibility for the residents and businesses in these areas,” the DPWH added.
Maintaining road surface
The asphalt overlay on this road segment is crucial for preserving the road surface, boosting longevity, increasing aesthetics, and lowering preventative maintenance expenses, according to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel.
“Asphalt paving is cost-effective and ensures the longevity and durability of the pavement. Adding a new protective layer will significantly extend the lifespan of the existing road,” Oropel said.
According to him, the asphalt overlay will make driving more comfortable and smooth for drivers, particularly those traveling to the Dumangas RoRo port and trucks that move cargo into and out of the province and Iloilo City.
Oropel added that putting asphalt on the road will improve riding quality and road noise levels, lessen vehicle wear and tear, and restore the route's capacity to handle heavy traffic.
