Just days after the PBA Governors' Cup Finals, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone is already focused on the next challenge—the second window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. With crucial home games coming up, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has announced the 15-man pool from which Cone will select his final 12. The team will face New Zealand on November 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena, looking to maintain their undefeated 2-0 record.

Ange Kouame Returns to Strengthen the Frontcourt

A major highlight of the new roster is the return of Ange Kouame, who has been called up to reinforce the team’s frontcourt. After stints with the Strong Group Athletics at the William Jones Cup and Meralco in the East Asia Super League, Kouame brings much-needed size and defensive presence. His return allows coach Tim Cone to give Justin Brownlee some rest, especially after a grueling PBA Finals. Kouame’s ability to protect the rim and contribute offensively will be a key asset as Gilas faces tough opposition in the qualifiers.

Ginebra Stars and New Additions Lead the Charge

Gilas continues to be anchored by Justin Brownlee and his Barangay Ginebra teammates: Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, and Jamie Malonzo. Brownlee, coming off a demanding PBA Finals, remains the cornerstone of Gilas’ offense. The return of Thompson, Aguilar, and Malonzo after injury ensures that Gilas will have a strong, experienced core ready to compete at a high level.

In addition, Calvin Oftana (TNT), June Mar Fajardo, and CJ Perez (San Miguel) bring championship experience, while Chris Newsome of Meralco adds stability to the backcourt. This blend of veterans will be crucial in maintaining a balanced, dynamic lineup.

Young Talent Ready to Step Up

The roster also features rising stars like Mason Amos and Kevin Quiambao, who add youthful energy and potential. International players like Carl Tamayo (KBL) and Kai Sotto, Dwight Ramos, and AJ Edu (B.League) bring valuable experience from top leagues in Asia.
