In a decisive move to enhance the judicial landscape in the Philippines, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially signed into law 11 measures aimed at creating additional court branches across the country. Announced by Malacañang, this initiative marks a significant step toward improving access to justice and addressing the growing demands on the legal system.

New Courts for Greater Access

One key measure–, Republic Act (RA) 12044–, establishes 12 new Regional Trial Court (RTC) branches in the Fourth Judicial Region, specifically in Los Baños and Cabuyao, Laguna. This law also introduces a Municipal Trial Court (MTC) in Cabuyao, ensuring local residents have essential legal services nearby. Additionally, RA 12045 facilitates the creation of two RTC and two MTC branches in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, further enhancing judicial access in the Ninth Judicial Region.

These new branches aim to alleviate the pressure on existing courts, reduce case backlogs, and streamline the legal process, making it easier for Filipinos to seek justice.

Targeted Growth in Key Regions

The expansion continues with RA 12048, which establishes four trial court branches and four MTC branches in Ormoc City, Leyte. RA 12049 adds two RTC branches in Tubod, Lanao del Norte, while RA 12050 introduces an MTC branch in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, and RA 12051 brings two MTC branches to Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. This targeted approach strengthens the judicial presence in these areas, making legal support more accessible.

Urban Focus and Additional Services

Urban centers also benefit from these new laws. RA 12052 creates three new trial court branches and two Metropolitan Trial Court branches in Navotas City, part of the National Capital Region. Meanwhile, RA 12053 adds three MTC branches in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, and RA 12054 establishes two RTC branches in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

These measures not only expand judicial resources but also reflect a broader commitment to improving essential services across the nation, including upgrades to healthcare facilities and community resources.
