With the implementation of the value-added tax law on digital services, Netflix will raise the cost of its membership plans in the Philippines on June 1.
On October 2, 2024, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12023, which levies a 12-percent VAT on foreign internet companies and digital service providers that offer services in the Philippines.
New service plans
The updated plan pricing are as follows:
- * Mobile - P169/month (previously P149)
- * Basic - P279/month (previously P249)
- * Standard - P449/month (previously P399)
- * Premium - P619/month (previously P549)
For Standard and Premium customers, additional member slots are now available for P169/month instead of P149.
Additionally, Netflix emailed its subscribers to let them know about the change.
Affecting other services
Digital service providers that are not residents are subject to this tax under the law.
These consist of digital services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Spotify, as well as online retailers like Shein and Temu and online game stores like Steam and Epic Games.
