BSP Introduces New Coin Series Honoring Philippine Festivals

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has introduced a new commemorative coin program celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage through its most iconic festivals. The initiative begins with the release of the first P100 Philippine Festival Commemorative Coin, which quickly sold out shortly after becoming available to the public.

Sinulog Festival Kicks Off the Coin Series

The inaugural coin features Cebu’s world-renowned Sinulog Festival, depicting a female dancer holding the image of the Sto. Niño, a central symbol of the celebration. The design also incorporates the Sto. Niño Sinulog icon, surrounded by detailed patterns and crowns. A diamond motif represents January, the month when the Sinulog Festival is traditionally held, adding symbolic depth to the collectible.

Twelve Festivals to Be Featured Nationwide

The Philippine Festival Commemorative Coin Series will consist of 12 silver coins, each highlighting a major cultural and tourism festival from different parts of the country. According to the BSP, one commemorative coin will be released every month throughout 2026, timed to coincide with the celebration of the featured festival.

Each coin is priced at P5,000 and is available for purchase through the BSP Store.

High Demand Signals Strong Collector Interest

Following the announcement, collectors and hobbyists quickly moved to secure the limited-edition Sinulog coin. In a recent social media update, the BSP confirmed that stocks have been exhausted.

“The Sinulog Festival Commemorative Coin is temporarily out of stock. We will provide an update as soon as they are available for purchase again. Stay tuned,” the BSP said.

The strong initial response underscores growing public interest in cultural collectibles that honor Philippine heritage and traditions.
