In a significant move to enhance the electricity supply in Lanao del Sur, several mini-hydropower facilities are set to be established. These projects, aimed at providing a sustainable and reliable energy source, are part of the Bangsamoro government's initiative to improve the region's energy security.

Launching the Projects in Kapai and Marogong

The new power projects will be launched in the towns of Kapai and Marogong. These projects are funded under the special development fund of the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA). The BPDA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) and the local governments of Kapai and Marogong, signed a memorandum of agreement for these initiatives on June 21.

Emphasizing Sustainable Resource Management

BPDA Director-General Engr. Mohajirin Ali highlighted the importance of sustainable resource management during the signing ceremony.

"This project demonstrates the MENRE's leadership in promoting sustainable practices. The mini-hydropower facilities will offer a reliable and clean energy source, reducing our reliance on non-renewable and environmentally harmful energy sources," Ali stated in a news release.

Enhancing Energy Security for the Bangsamoro Region

Energy security is a key component of the Bangsamoro government's enhanced 12-point priority agenda. This agenda focuses on developing, exploring, and utilizing alternative energy resources to attract investments and create job opportunities for the people of the region. The establishment of mini-hydropower facilities in Kapai and Marogong aligns with this agenda, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable and secure energy future for Lanao del Sur.
