During the New Year's Eve festivities in Cebu province, a 23-year-old vlogger perished in two separate firecracker-related events, following a firework explosion close to his chest. Cyril John Remis–a resident of Barangay San Roque, Asturias–was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
Witnesses recount
Initial police findings indicate that Remis was with neighbors launching fireworks at the time of the incident. His face and chest were fatally injured when the bombshell-type firework suddenly exploded as he was tending to it. After being taken to the hospital in a hurry, he was declared dead upon arrival.
Remis was believed to have only lit up such firecrackers for the first time and went up to it when it didn't light. The explosion was strong enough to instantaneously render Remis incapacitated, according to the Asturias police.

Cyril John Remis was an aspiring vlogger posting numerous videos in his social media accounts before his death.
A video of Remis at the time of explosion was even captured by one of his family members before his untimely demise.
