To alleviate the flooding issue in certain lowland towns, the Cebu City government plans to construct a water retention pond in the highland Nasipit neighborhood of Barangay Talamban.
According to Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, Danilo Jaque was employed by his office as a technical resource person for the city government's "war on flood" activities.
Jaque will serve as a consultant for stormwater management, drainage, and flood control.
Giving the marching order
Garcia said he had already given Jaque the go-ahead to carry out a feasibility study for the creation of a water retention pond.
The study will focus on how it will avert serious floods during heavy downpours in the nearby communities of Banilad and Talamban.
According to the mayor, he has also requested assistance for the project from the national government via the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Time will tell
The cost of the water retention pond has not yet been determined by the city consultant.
Jaque previously served on the Metro Cebu Integrated Flood Control and Drainage System Master Plan Technical Working Group, which received funding from the DPWH in 2016.
