Beginning in the first quarter of 2025, ten communities in Bacolod City will have rainwater collection facilities thanks to a project supported by the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa).
These communities include Mansilingan, Sum-ag, Banago, Mandalagan, Taculing, Vista Alegre, Handumanan, Singcang-Airport, Felisa, and Tangub.
Providing sustainable water solutions
The goal of the new rainwater catchment facility project is to improve water accessibility, particularly in villages with limited supplies, by offering sustainable options.
According to Mona Dia Jardin, general manager of Baciwa, they have set aside nearly PHP1 million in their budget to build the amenities.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and members of the Baciwa board gathered at the Bacolod City Government Center to talk about the project's implementation.
Coordinating communities
According to Jardin, a rigorous selection process was used to determine which towns would most benefit from the additional water resources in order to alleviate water scarcity and promote sustainable development.
Barangay Granada was selected as a test area for the Local Water Utilities Administration's rainwater collecting program in August of this year.
To make it accessible to locals, Granada's small-scale rainwater catchment facility is situated next to their village hall.
