The City of Victorias in Negros Occidental is using solar power to supply water to one of its villages while also providing a sustainable and renewable water source for the city's administrative buildings.
After it was inaugurated, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) solar water system project–which cost more than PHP9 million–is expected to help at least 100 Barangay XIV inhabitants.
The project, which is in collaboration with the Victorias City Government, intends to offer clean, safe, and dependable water to the expanding town using solar energy that is renewable.
Water security
According to Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, the goal of the project is to deliver a clean, safe, and dependable water supply to the expanding town.
“It is smart, sustainable, and environment-friendly, positioning Victorias as a model for water security and sustainable development,” he said.
Benitez said he believes solar energy and renewable energy sources would power the water system at the New Government Site, as well as other government halls, in the future.
The time is now for Victorias City
The solar water system project project was carried out with financing from the General Appropriations Act of 2023 and was unveiled with a commemorative marker by Jose Francisco Benitez, the current Director-General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, through the Office of the previous Third District Representative.
Benitez sealed the acceptance certificate, and the mayor also received the key of responsibility from Engineer II Bennil Juele of the DPWH Negros Occidental First District Engineering Office.
