The Department of Tourism (DOT) is gearing up to draw more visitors to Eastern Visayas with a dynamic new strategy that links the region's islands through engaging tour programs. With its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural resources, Eastern Visayas is ready to shine on the tourism map.
Building a Collaborative Tourism Network
Under the leadership of Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes, a collaborative effort is underway among officials and tour operators from Eastern, Western, and Central Visayas. As part of the “One Visayas” initiative, these discussions have led to the development of thematic tour programs designed to showcase the region’s unique offerings.
“We’ve identified several operators willing to assist with cost estimates, and we’ll unveil our plans at the One Visayas showcase in Manila this December,” Tiopes shared. The initiative will highlight the area’s stunning diving spots, UNESCO-recognized trails, and lively cultural sites.
Enhancing Accessibility for Travelers
A crucial aspect of this initiative is improving connectivity to Eastern Visayas. With direct flights to Cebu and the upcoming resumption of flights from Tacloban to Iloilo, the region is becoming more accessible to both domestic and international tourists. Tiopes noted, “This enhanced connectivity is excellent for our inbound foreign guests,” emphasizing that tailored tour packages can accommodate various budgets and schedules, making the region even more appealing to a wider audience.
Discovering the Hidden Treasures of Eastern Visayas
Despite being lesser-known than other Philippine destinations, Eastern Visayas is home to remarkable attractions waiting to be explored. The region comprises provinces like Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, and Southern Leyte, alongside vibrant cities such as Tacloban and Ormoc. Visitors can experience the beauty of Kalanggaman Island, the iconic San Juanico Bridge, and the historic Leyte Landing Memorial.
As travelers increasingly seek authentic nature experiences, Tiopes believes Eastern Visayas is poised to emerge as a must-visit destination for those craving adventure and cultural immersion.
