Because of the continuous strong demand for air travel to the province, Philippine Airlines is expanding its route network to include Borongan City in Eastern Samar from Cebu City.

The mayor of Borongan City, Jose Ivan Dayan Agda, announced in a statement that PAL will begin operating a third weekly flight on the Cebu-Borongan route every Wednesday.

Additional air travel

According to the local government, the expansion is expected to start before the end of September, and this new flight will be added to the current Monday and Friday timetable.

After the route's launch in 2022, there has been a constant demand for flights, which prompted the decision.

Agda largely credited the community, local government leaders, and travelers for their tremendous support in making the Borongan flight route a success.

The Borongan City government provided a passenger departure terminal to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to support PAL's operations. On flying days, the local administration furthermore provides a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.

High demand

According to Rupert Ambil II, chairperson of aviation operations and chief of the city information office, locals have a strong desire for mid-week flights.

As of June 2024, he added, at least 17,539 people had reserved seats on the Manila-Cebu-Borongan route since the airline launched the route on December 19, 2022.

PAL is the only airline operating out of Borongan City Airport. The airline company has provided two weekly flights—Mondays and Fridays—from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to Borongan City Airport via Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
