San Remigio's new PHP200 million Nasuli bridge, which intends to connect eight towns in the area, is now open and ready to enhance the municipality’s tourism and spur its economic growth.

In an interview, Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. stated that the bridge links Barangay Nasuli and the town proper to eight villages: Vilvar, Baladjay, Carawisan 1, Carawisan 2, Carmelo 1, Carmelo 2, Magdalena, and General.

“The bridge is also part of the ongoing Panay East-West Lateral Road project of the DPWH that will connect San Remigio to Valderrama to Lambunao, Iloilo,” he said.

Towns connectivity

According to him, visitors from the province and city of Iloilo will have an additional path to San Remigio as a result of the interconnection.

Because of its temperate environment and breathtaking mountain views, San Remigio—also referred to as the Little Baguio of Antique—will soon transform into the Baguio of Panay, according to Sen. Loren Legarda.

Along with Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda of the Lone District and Assistant Regional Director Al Fruto of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Senator Legarda led the project's inauguration on Saturday.

Boosting economy through tourism

Legarda noted in her speech how the bridge could give locals income from the tourism the bridge could generate.

“You can then put up a sunrise view deck and establishments around the area. People can have an income because of the tourists,” Legarda said

Meanwhile, Rubie Legazpi, the chief of Barangay Carawisan, stated that parents no longer have to worry about their children's safety when carrying their agricultural products to market because they no longer need to cross a river.
