Central Visayas has emerged as the frontrunner in the 2024 Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games, leading the senior division with an impressive tally of 66 gold, 33 silver, and 34 bronze medals as of 4 p.m. on July 25, 2024. This outstanding performance puts Region 7 in a commanding position for the overall championship.
The Cordillera Administrative Region follows with 33 golds, 23 silvers, and 31 bronzes, while Western Visayas stands third with 24 golds, 23 silvers, and 19 bronzes.
Youth Division Highlights
In the youth division, the Bicol Region, the host, leads with 52 golds, 39 silvers, and 38 bronzes. Western Visayas and Calabarzon are next with 38-42-30 and 33-21-20 medal counts, respectively. Central Visayas holds a modest position with 11 golds, 20 silvers, and 6 bronzes.
Torregosa Shines in Track and Field
Central Visayas' Artjoy Torregosa has made headlines by winning gold in the women’s 10,000m run at Bicol University’s track and field stadium. With a time of 39:26.9, she outpaced Soccsksargen’s Leedy Erika Villamonte and Ara Tang. Torregosa has also claimed gold in the 5,000m and 3,000m events. Her performance in the 5,000m set a new record of 18:32.3, surpassing the previous mark of 18:35.3.
In addition to Torregosa, Ilocos Region’s Kent Brian Celeste and Guhan Garcia, as well as Central Luzon’s Justin Alboleras, each won three gold medals in their respective events.
Western Visayas Excels in Taekwondo
Western Visayas has dominated the taekwondo competition, collecting 12 gold medals. The standout winners include Hannah Margarette Dello, Diana Ashley Dello, and Carina Adrea Duran in the women’s division, and Cy Aldous Espinoza, Enzo Lucio Cape, and Sam Gabriel Vargas in the men’s.
Central Visayas also excelled with gold medals from Angelie Clem Daclan and Christine Villasor, among others. The youth division saw impressive performances from Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Central Luzon athletes.
