The City of Bacolod, through its City Veterinary Office, formally launched the inaugural Bacolod Pet Festival at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central Activity Center.
The festival's goal is to raise awareness about rabies, promote animal welfare, and encourage responsible pet ownership.
Festival events
The event began with a pet walk at Panaad Park and Stadium.
According to city veterinarian Dr. John Michael Cabugwason, they want to vaccinate more dogs and cats in order to meet the pet festival's vaccination goal of 80,000 animals.
According to him, P4 million had been set aside by the city for the immunization campaign.
With the theme "Building a Safe and Rabies-free Community is our Shared Responsibility," the city has set aside P150,000 for the celebration.
New pet ID
The Pet I.D. or the digital registration that uses a QR code to hold the digital information of dogs and cats–including the owner and vaccinations–was launched during the event.
The first dog to be registered at the event was Sydney.
The city also hopes to secure open spaces for its pets to provide more social interactions for the animals.
