The Department of Agriculture (DA) is allocating PHP169.4 million for agricultural projects in Central Visayas in 2025. The funding will support 155 projects aimed at boosting productivity through infrastructure improvements and the distribution of modern farm machinery. These initiatives are designed to help farmers improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and increase crop yields.
Infrastructure and Technology to Boost Productivity
A key focus of the funding is the development of vital agricultural infrastructure, such as irrigation systems, and the provision of machinery for farming operations. According to Edna Yu, head of the Regional Agricultural Engineering Division of DA-7, these investments will modernize farming practices and ensure long-term sustainability. With better access to water for irrigation and advanced equipment, farmers can achieve higher productivity while adopting more efficient, environmentally-friendly methods.
Building on 2024’s Achievements
In 2024, the DA implemented 27 projects worth PHP54.4 million, alongside 44 infrastructure projects valued at PHP66.7 million. The agency also supported 153 machinery and equipment projects amounting to PHP92.7 million. These earlier initiatives helped farmers adopt modern tools and technologies, significantly enhancing farm operations. The 2025 funding builds on these successes, continuing the DA’s effort to create a more mechanized and efficient agricultural sector in Central Visayas.
Encouraging Responsible Farming Practices
While the government is making significant investments in agriculture, Edna Yu emphasized the importance of farmers’ responsibility in maximizing these resources. “The government invests millions to support farmers, but they must approach farming with passion and dedication,” Yu said. She urged farmer-beneficiaries to maintain the infrastructure and equipment provided and to collaborate with fellow farmers to ensure the success of these projects.
