There’s a fresh buzz in the world of travel—and this time, it’s Samar making waves. The province just made its exciting debut on the global cruise map with the arrival of the Heritage Adventurer, a Portuguese-registered expedition cruise ship. Docking at the breathtaking Samar Island Natural Park (SINP), this visit marked the province’s official entry into the cruise tourism scene.
Onboard were 130 adventurous guests from Australia, New Zealand, France, and other parts of Europe, eager to explore what Samar had to offer; and they were not disappointed. This milestone is just the beginning of Samar’s journey into becoming one of the country’s most exciting destinations for global travelers.
Wild Trails, Hidden Gardens, and Culinary Surprises
For the lucky visitors, Samar delivered the perfect mix of adventure and culture. Guests trekked the lush Paranas Eco-Trail inside SINP, surrounded by rich biodiversity and vibrant birdlife. They also visited a private two-hectare arboretum in Paranas—a quiet haven of rare and native tree species carefully nurtured by its owner.
But the adventure didn’t stop there. Travelers marveled at the Kandiwata Rock Formation in Daram, where dramatic limestone cliffs rise from clear blue waters—picture-perfect for explorers and photographers alike.
And of course, Samar’s culinary heritage stole the show. Thanks to the Secret Kitchens of Samar initiative, visitors were treated to authentic home-cooked dishes prepared by local heritage cooks. Every bite was a taste of history, family, and local pride.
The Beginning of Bigger Adventures
“This is one for the books,” said DOT Eastern Visayas Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes—and she’s right. Plans are already underway to develop more exciting shore excursions and new destinations across the province.
For travelers craving authentic experiences, raw beauty, and unforgettable flavors, Samar is now officially on the map—and ready for more adventure.
