Cebu’s famous mango season is once again taking center stage as thousands of locals and tourists gather at The Mactan Newtown township in Lapu-Lapu City for the ongoing Cebu Mangoes Festival 2026. Running until May 31, the annual celebration transforms the township into a colorful hub of food, culture, entertainment, and community activities inspired by one of Cebu’s most iconic fruits.
The festival officially opened on May 22 at the Mactan Expo Center with a grand launch highlighted by what organizers described as the Philippines’ tallest mango cake. The towering centerpiece became one of the event’s biggest attractions as visitors flocked to the venue, which also serves as the official site of the ASEAN Summit. Organized in partnership with the Department of Tourism and the Lapu-Lapu City government, the festival was designed to showcase the cultural and culinary importance of Cebu mangoes through interactive experiences and family-oriented events.

Celebrating Cebu’s Mango Heritage
For many Filipinos, mangoes are deeply tied to everyday meals, desserts, celebrations, and local traditions. The Mactan Newtown used this year’s festival to highlight how the fruit has become part of Cebuano identity, with activities centered on food, harvest traditions, and tourism.
One of the festival’s key attractions is “The Great Mango Harvest,” scheduled on May 24, inspired by traditional mango harvesting practices in Cebu. Guests who spent at least P2,000 at participating establishments from May 4 to 22 qualified for the interactive activity by submitting receipts at the Mangoes Festival Promo Booth in Mactan Alfresco. Participants were given the chance to harvest fresh mangoes themselves and take home whatever they successfully picked during the allotted time.
Festivalgoers also enjoyed cultural showcases, live entertainment, and immersive experiences during the opening festivities, while more activities continue throughout the celebration period.
Food, Culture, and Community Activities
The festival also shines a spotlight on Cebu’s culinary talent through the Culinary Showdown held on May 23. Five schools and universities from Cebu joined the competition, where participants created dishes highlighting mangoes as a key ingredient. Guest chefs Chef Pao Aviso of Mercure Hotel and Chef Coke Semblante of Savoy Hotel participated in the event to mentor and inspire young culinary talents.
Other festival activities include the Pawty Run, Cebu Mangoes Festival Queen, Mango Tree Planting, and the Spicy Dried Mango Eating Battle. Meanwhile, the Cebu Mangoes Food Festival continues until May 31, offering visitors a variety of mango-inspired dishes, desserts, beverages, and local specialties.
Beyond entertainment, the event also promotes sustainability through tree-planting efforts aimed at preserving Cebu’s mango-growing traditions and encouraging environmental awareness within the community.
As Cebu continues strengthening its tourism and cultural identity, festivals like this help boost local businesses, attract visitors, and create opportunities for farmers, food entrepreneurs, and tourism workers.
