Antique province played host to the Obra Antiqueño Trade Fair from December 7-13, 2023. Themed "Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring Innovation," the event, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique Provincial Office, has left an indelible mark on both locals and visitors alike, encapsulating the rich heritage and entrepreneurial spirit of the region.
Congressman Legarda's Vision Unveiled
In his message, Congressman Antonio Legarda Jr. expressed his commitment to the growth of Antiqueño Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), acknowledging their crucial role in propelling the local economy forward.
DTI Antique's Call for Cultural Inspiration
Meanwhile, Mutya D. Eusores, the Officer-in-Charge Provincial Director of DTI Antique, highlighted the significant influence of culture and heritage in nurturing innovation. She encouraged local businesses to draw inspiration from Antiqueño traditions, recognizing them as valuable wellsprings for crafting innovative products with the potential to shape the future.
Antiqueño Craftsmanship on Display
Thirty-six exhibitors showcased Antiqueño ingenuity and craftsmanship, offering a wide array of food and non-food products. From accessories and clothing made from indigenous materials to intricately woven bags, bamboo crafts, dairy products, muscovado sugar, and frozen meats, the fair displayed the diverse talents and skills of Antiqueño entrepreneurs.
One standout feature was the Antiqueño-made shoes and apparel accentuated with the traditional textile "patadyong," seamlessly blending tradition with modern fashion.
Coconut Industry Modernization
The Coconut Farmers & Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) also made its presence felt, promoting the potential of coconut products and supporting the modernization of the Philippine coconut industry. Visitors had the chance to explore coco-based products, such as coconut cookies, macaroons, virgin coconut oil, and coco soothing rub, adding a delicious and health-conscious twist to the trade fair.
The Obra Antiqueño Trade Fair was not just a marketplace; it was a platform for MSMEs to connect with the public. Through this event, Antique showcased its dedication to economic growth while preserving its cultural heritage.
