Georgia Francesca Carmina Tan–a 16-year old Filipina from the United States–won three medals, including one gold, at the 18th Singapore Open Artistic Swimming Championships at the Singapore Aquatic Center.
Tan, who currently trains in California after being born and raised in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, won the Solo Free Group C Open Seniors class with a total score of 96.6370 points, surpassing Sri Lankan Shashani Fernando (95.3589).
Coached by Giella Sanchez, she won bronze in Solo Tech Group D (Open Seniors) with 130.9950 points and silver in Solo Tech Group C (15-19 Juniors) with 187.4137 points.
Future of PH artistic swimming
Tan, Antonia Lucia Rafaelle, and Zoe Lim will also participate in the Southeast Asia Age Group Championships, which will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 6–8.
“We celebrate this milestone for artistic swimming in the Philippines! Maraming salamat, Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (PAI)," Sanchez said.
The three athletes will also be members of the Philippine Team at the SEA Age Championship.
Leading the budding Philippine pack
In addition to artistic swimming, teams participating in water polo, diving, and swimming are traveling to Thailand.
Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, Shania Joy Baraquiel, Sophia Rose Garra, Riannah Chantelle Coleman, Maxene Hayley, Liv Abigail Florendo, Jamesray Mishael Ajido, Ivo Nikolai Enot, Reinielle Jan Mikos Trinidad, Peter Cyrus Dean, Jaydison Edrei Dacuycuy, and Ryian Zach Danzel will represent the Philippine swimming squad.
Aishel Cid Evangelista, Elijah Caleb De Leon, Lance Edrick Adalin, Matthew Cameron Dasig, Julian Christi Malubag, Miel Joaquin Ugahan, Kenzzie Trey Dumanglas, Niklas Joaquin De Guzman, Andrei Karl Alagban, Joaquin Federico Mirasol, Alexandre Gabriel Establecida, Dave Russell Geda, and Sean Gabriel Enero make up the boys' water polo team.
