The nation's rugby team, the Philippine Volcanoes, took home the gold in both the men's and women's divisions at the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy, which was played in Nepal.
In the finals, the women's team defeated India 7–5, and the men's team defeated Chinese Taipei 27–14.
“Winning double gold at the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy is a historic achievement for Philippine Rugby, and it reflects the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and support staff to make it happen. We are excited to see the continued growth and success of rugby in the Philippines,” Ada Milby, President of Philippine Rugby, said.
Return to Asia’s elite
The Philippines will make a comeback to the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series the following year after winning these titles.
The men's and women's programs, which comprised a rigorous training camp and a tough selection procedure, demonstrated their strength and promise through the Philippine Volcanoes' accomplishments in Nepal.
“We are immensely proud of both our women's and men's teams for their performances and dedication,” Milby added.
