The national women's football team intends to add star power to the Philippine women's futsal team in the 2025 FIFA Futsal World Cup after its historic Women's World Cup campaign in 2023.
As the nation hosts the first world futsal competition next year, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) intends to add players from the elite Filipinas squad to the futsal team.
“Our women’s national team players have committed their services to the futsal women’s team,” PFF president John Gutierrez said.
Going back to futsal
Gutierrez mentioned that some Filipinas began their football careers by playing futsal, though no names have been revealed as of yet.
“It was simply because some of them actually started in futsal,” he said.
The Futsal World Cup will be the nation's first-ever FIFA tournament and will take place from November 21 to December 5, 2025.
What to expect
Vic Hermans, the head coach of the Philippine futsal squad, is anticipated to call the shots in the event.
Only Oceania champion New Zealand is currently set to participate alongside host Philippines.
Teams of five players compete in the football-like sport of futsal on a 40-by-20-meter level field. Futsal, which translates to "indoor football" in Spanish, is a 40-minute game that is divided into two 20-minute halves.
