SM Supermalls, under the direction of its President Steven Tan, is going through a reinvention phase, turning its shopping centers into inventive, sustainable, and community-focused places.
“The history of SM Supermalls is one that has been built on innovation and change to serve the needs of millions of Filipinos,” says Mr. Tan.
Community-centric designs
The communities that these malls serve have an impact on the designs of their next generation.
The sky roof of the soon-to-open SM City Laoag reflects the indigenous Ilocano handwoven fabric known as inabel weave.
The forthcoming SM City La Union embodies the province's carefree beach vibe. Furthermore, areas are made just for regional brands, honoring and assisting the local business owners.
Other bold redevelopments
Incorporating lush indoor gardens and constructing more outdoor greeneries is a prominent component of the daring redevelopments of SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM City Bacolod, SM City Cebu, and SM City Iloilo.
SM continuously refines its tried-and-true sustainable solutions, which are now found in practically all of its malls. These solutions include solar energy, deck landscaping, water recycling and treatment, and natural lighting.
SM is always pushing the limits of retail and giving Filipinos a new meaning and experience when they visit malls.
