In the first quarter of San Miguel's 2024 PBA Governors' Cup matchup against Barangay Ginebra, Marcio Lassiter made his third three-pointer of the contest, thereby establishing himself as the country's new three-point king.
Lassiter had made 1,251 three-pointers and counting in his career, breaking the record set in 2016 by the legendary Jimmy Alapag.
Lassiter had to make three three-pointers to break the record going into the game, and he did just that in the first quarter, sinking his first one at 11:18 and his second with 7:40 remaining.
Truly honored
He ended the game with 18 points, with six threes to lead San Miguel to their 131-82 rout of Ginebra.
Following a brief ceremony, his family joined him to celebrate the accomplishment at the game's halftime.
"I'm just truly honored and blessed to be in this position, and yeah, words can't describe how I feel. I'm just overwhelmed with a lot of emotions right now," Lassiter said.
One of one
With 1,250 three-point makes, Alapag is currently placed second, and Allan Caidic is in third position with 1,242 in the all-time list.
Lassiter had the highest shooting percentage (39%) among the top three while appearing in just 537 games.
Caidic finished with a 37 percent shooting percentage in 598 games, while Alapag finished with a 36 percent shooting percentage in 601 games overall.
