Filipinos traveling to or staying in Vietnam are being advised to get travel insurance as the country continues to report cases of food poisoning.
The Philippine Embassy in Hanoi issued the reminder on September 8, stressing that insurance can help cover medical costs and other unexpected emergencies during a trip.
The embassy also encouraged Filipinos to take extra care when choosing where to eat and drink.
Choose reputable food establishments
Travelers and residents were advised to dine only at hotels and restaurants with established safety and sanitation standards.
The embassy also recommended drinking bottled water while in Vietnam as an added precaution against food- and water-related illnesses.
Cases continue to rise
According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health data cited by the embassy, the country recorded 84 food poisoning outbreaks in 2025, affecting 2,301 people and causing 16 deaths.
The number of reported outbreaks has continued this year, with 58 incidents recorded in the first half of 2026. These affected 1,573 people and resulted in 10 deaths.
