GCash users who enjoy playing games through GLife will need to cash out soon. The mobile wallet announced that it will suspend access to gaming on the platform starting Saturday, August 16, at exactly 8 p.m., in line with a new order from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Players can still withdraw funds from their gaming accounts back to their GCash wallets via GLife until the deadline. After that, any remaining balance will only be accessible by logging in directly to the gaming merchant’s website.
“We share the BSP’s commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and responsible digital environment for all,” GCash said, noting that the move is part of broader measures to protect users from the risks linked to online gambling.
Following the BSP’s New Policy
This suspension follows BSP Memorandum No. M-2025-029, which directs all BSP-supervised institutions, including e-wallets, to remove in-app gaming features from their apps and websites. The Bangko Sentral gave providers just 48 hours to take down all icons and links to gambling platforms.
BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan revealed the decision during a Senate Committee on Games and Amusement hearing, adding that by Sunday, e-wallets should be completely disconnected from online gaming services.
“The Monetary Board approved our policy. We ordered BSP-supervised institutions to take down and remove all icons and links redirecting to gambling sites,” Tangonan told lawmakers.
Protecting Financial Well-Being
GCash said it fully supports stronger safeguards for online gaming and will continue to work closely with regulators and industry partners. The company emphasized that its priority is to help protect the financial health of its millions of users.
The BSP’s new policy is intended to reduce the potential risks of excessive online gambling and promote responsible use of digital wallets. For GCash users, the key takeaway is clear: transfer any remaining gaming funds before August 16, 8 p.m., or be prepared to manage them directly through the gaming provider’s website.
