Social Welfare Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, founder and president of the Hope for Lupus Foundation, recently launched the “Hope for Lupus Exhibit” at SM Aura Premier, marking an important step in raising awareness about lupus across the Philippines.

Diagnosed with lupus in her early twenties, Villar has personally experienced the challenges of this chronic autoimmune disease. Her journey from pain and health crises to advocacy fuels her passion to educate others and support those affected.

“Lupus changed my life—but it also became a source of purpose,” Villar said during the exhibit’s opening. “Through this exhibit, we aim to create understanding and hope for those living with lupus and their families,” she added.

A Hands-On Approach to Lupus Education

The traveling exhibit, open from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, offers visitors a chance to hear first hand stories from lupus warriors, interact with displays highlighting early symptoms, and learn about treatment options. Medical professionals are also on hand to answer questions and provide guidance on managing the disease.

Designed to break myths and foster community, the exhibit welcomes patients, families, and the general public to gain a clearer understanding of lupus, a condition affecting over five million people worldwide.

Bringing Awareness Closer to Communities

After its debut at SM Aura, the exhibit will visit SM Podium from June 6 to 8, and SM City North EDSA from August 22 to 24. The Foundation expressed gratitude to SM Supermalls for helping bring this vital health education to accessible public venues.

Under Villar’s leadership, the Hope for Lupus Foundation continues to transform personal struggle into public service—ensuring Filipinos nationwide are informed, supported, and empowered in the fight against lupus.
