The Philippines, long celebrated for its white-sand beaches and golden sunsets, is gaining momentum as a go-to summer destination for travelers across Asia Pacific. A new report from the Mastercard Economics Institute shows a rising interest in Philippine cities among tourists seeking vibrant, experience-rich escapes.
In Mastercard’s “Travel Trends 2025” report, Cebu ranked 12th among summer destinations for Taiwanese travelers. This Central Visayas gem is loved for its crystal-clear waters, world-class diving spots, and lively island-hopping adventures. Manila also stood out, placing 9th on the list for Vietnamese tourists drawn to the capital’s historic charm—especially spots like Intramuros, Fort Santiago, and the National Museum.
More Visitors from South Korea, U.S., and Japan
Tourism from South Korea, the U.S., Japan, Australia, and Singapore is also on the rise. This growing interest reflects a broader trend of travelers choosing destinations that offer meaningful, value-packed experiences.
“Even as economic uncertainty persists, travel remains a bright spot—driven by people seeking meaningful, value-driven experiences,” said David Mann, Mastercard’s chief economist for Asia Pacific.
Meanwhile, Filipino travelers are exploring more of Asia, with Tokyo and Hanoi topping their summer travel list.
Food, Nature, and Sports Boost Travel Demand
Across the region, travelers are seeking not just destinations, but experiences—whether it’s savoring iconic dishes or connecting with nature. Culinary hubs like Gianyar in Bali, famous for its traditional Babi Guling, and Queenstown in New Zealand, known for its global dining scene, are gaining attention.
Sports tourism is another growing trend, with major events like the Australian Open and the Baseball World Series drawing fans and tourists alike.
With its mix of natural beauty, cultural depth, and warm hospitality, the Philippines is clearly making its mark on the regional travel map—offering more reasons than ever for visitors to keep coming back.
