Under the leadership of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, the Department of Education (DepEd) has approved 5,335 teacher reclassifications under the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) System. The program is supported by a Php6.1 billion budget for 2026, targeting over 100,000 promotions this year.
Expanded Career Progression
The ECP guarantees that no public school teacher will retire as Teacher I while providing pathways for career growth and leadership. It was implemented in coordination with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize teacher welfare and professional development.
By streamlining promotions and providing clearer pathways for advancement, this initiative ensures that public school educators feel valued and motivated throughout their careers.
SPIMS Program
The "Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am at Sir" (SPIMS) Program helps Filipino teachers affected by Middle East conflicts reintegrate into public schools. The program works with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to provide placement, training, and support services.
Qualifying returning teachers who have passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers may be appointed as Teacher I under permanent status.
“Sa mga gurong Pilipino sa Gitnang Silangan at sa iba pang panig ng mundo, bukas ang pintuan ng ating mga pampublikong paaralan para sa inyo,” Angara stated.
EdLead 360
To strengthen leadership nationwide, DepEd launched EdLead360: Public Education Leadership Lab, in partnership with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and the Asian Institute of Management. The program equips school officials with strategic leadership skills, enabling them to address learning gaps and implement long-term education reforms.
Through these programs, DepEd and Secretary Angara are ensuring Filipino teachers enjoy career growth, international opportunities, and strong leadership support, reinforcing the backbone of the country’s public education system.
