The De La Salle University (DLSU) has announced that it will be offering full-time doctorate students complete tuition and monthly stipends through its Saint Miguel Febres Cordero PhD Scholarship Program.
The Ecuadorian saint, who belonged to the La Sallian Brothers, is honored through the name of the new scholarship thanks to his advocacies that focused on evangelization and education.
DLSU announced on its official Facebook page that the scholarship program will waive all other costs, including tuition, and provide a monthly stipend of P35,000 for four years.
Among all DLSU PhD programs–including those offering straight or MA-PhD degrees–just 15 scholars will be selected from these courses to enjoy the benefits.
What will it take to qualify
Those who wish to apply must be accepted into a PhD program at DLSU. Even though it won’t be a requirement, a recommendation from a professor in the student's department can help increase their chances of being awarded a scholarship.
There are no financial need criteria, and all students are eligible to apply for these merit-based scholarships. This implies that applicants may be students from any financial background.
Program’s competitive nature
Given the substantial rewards, a competitive process is expected to be used to grant the scholarships.
According to DLSU, there is no service obligation following graduation. There will be no consequences if a candidate does not finish the program within the suggested four academic years. However, the waiver will expire after that time so it’s still in the students’ best interest to complete the program once qualified.
