The Singaporean government is now taking applications for the ASEAN scholarship for Filipino students in Grade 9 or higher.

The scholarship is available for four years–from Secondary 3 to Pre-University 2–culminating in the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education A-Level or a comparable credential, according to the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE).

This will be extended annually in accordance with the scholar's academic achievement.

Students’ applications

Students looking to apply must log into their registered accounts to submit an application online via the MOE website. The organization stated that there is no need to pay an application fee.

The applicant must be born between January 2, 2009, and January 1, 2012, be enrolled in Grade 9 or above, speak English fluently, and have a strong record of involvement in extracurricular activities.

The application period is January 6–February 21. Shortlisted candidates will be notified to attend selection tests at least one week prior to March.

If there are enough shortlisted applicants, the examinations can be held in Manila and Cebu before which applicants will receive an email with test specifics, which include both English and mathematics.

Benefits of the scholars

A yearly allowance including hostel accommodations, a settling-in allowance, return economy travel, school costs, GCE O-Level and A-Level exam fees (once only, if applicable), subsidized medical benefits, and accident insurance are all covered by the scholarship.

Students "will have opportunities to broaden their horizons and develop important skills such as leadership, communication, and other life skills" as a result of the scholarship, according to the MOE.
