The relationship between musician Rico Blanco and actress Maris Racal, which started back in 2021, is over.
During a Star Magic Spotlight news conference, Maris confirmed that she and Rico had broken up some weeks ago.
With a 25-year gap, she remarked, “Ang dami kasing tanong and I’m tired of smiling and nodding,” she said. “I’m so scared ‘cause if I announce it, then it’s real. But yeah, Rico and I are over.”
No short answer
The split occurred a few weeks ago, according to Maris, who described them as the "loneliest, emptiest weeks I've ever experienced in my life."
She continued by saying that because of the complexity of the matter, she is unable to simply issue a statement outlining the events.
"Wala akong short answer for it. Hindi ko rin siya malabas ng isang statement lang kasi hindi gan'un kadali, sobrang hirap niya na situation," Maris bared.
"Rico and I, our universe was so beautiful, so full of love, laughter, music, spontaneity, everything."
A unique love story
Maris hasn't been shy about her affection for the Rivermaya singer, as she's been a lifelong fan with so-called "manifestation" tweets dating back to 2018 during her Pinoy Big Brother stint.
In 2021, Maris tweeted a greeting for Rico on his 48th birthday, sparking suspicions about their relationship.
Racal officially announced her relationship with Blanco in May 2021. The two have worked on several songs together, including "Not for Me" in 2021 and "Abot Langit" in 2019.
Blanco produced the actress' song "Ate Sandali" in June 2021, and she co-wrote "Asa Naman" with him in September of the same year.
Rico Blanco opened up about how his relationship with Maris Racal began, saying that the actress' "happy vibe" brings out the best in him.
