Real estate giant Megaworld Corporation has reached a major green milestone by powering all its major properties with 100% renewable energy. This shift underscores Megaworld’s long-term commitment to sustainability and responsible development.

As part of its MEGreen program, Megaworld's renewable energy initiative now encompasses offices, malls, hotels, and residential properties across the nation.

Powering Over 50 Properties with Clean Energy

The transition covers 54 commercial assets under Megaworld and its real estate investment trust, MREIT, Inc. These include 26 office towers, 15 lifestyle malls and retail centers, and 8 hotels located in key developments such as Uptown Bonifacio, Eastwood City, McKinley Hill, Southwoods City, Iloilo Business Park, and Boracay Newcoast.

This achievement positions the Megaworld renewable energy strategy as a pioneering move in Philippine real estate. By aligning with national energy reforms like the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework, Megaworld ensures its high-energy-consuming properties, or “contestable customers,” are now powered by licensed renewable energy providers.

Sustainable Living in Residential Spaces

Aside from commercial properties, Megaworld has also transitioned several residential buildings in Uptown Bonifacio, Forbes Town, Westside City, and Makati City to renewable energy sources. This not only promotes cleaner cities but also gives residents a stake in environmental protection.

The Megaworld renewable energy rollout in residential zones is part of a broader effort to make townships more self-sustaining and resilient. This move reflects growing demand among urban dwellers for green-living options that don't compromise comfort or lifestyle.

MEGreen: A Unified Sustainability Framework

Launched in 2023, MEGreen is Megaworld’s central platform for all environmental initiatives. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and provides a clear roadmap for future green developments.

Under MEGreen, non-contestable properties—including those under Megaworld subsidiaries and joint ventures—are expected to fully transition into renewable energy by 2030. This makes the Megaworld renewable energy roadmap not just a corporate milestone but a nationwide model for sustainable development.

Towards the Future of Green Townships

According to Megaworld Sustainability Head Jose Arnulfo C. Batac, the company envisions townships that thrive on clean energy. “This milestone underscores Megaworld’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship. We are fully committed to extending these efforts to all our developments,” he said.

The Megaworld renewable energy initiative not only benefits current tenants and stakeholders but also paves the way for the next generation of eco-conscious communities.

With the Megaworld renewable energy program in full swing, the company is setting a bold example for how real estate can move forward sustainably, without compromise.
