Fifty indigent families in Barangay Katil, Datu Paglas, Maguindanao del Sur received housing units on May 18 under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan or KAPYANAN program.
For beneficiaries, the turnover marked a long-awaited milestone, turning the dream of owning a home into reality.
Designed for Resilience and Daily Needs
The housing units were built with both safety and sustainability in mind.
During the ceremony, BARMM Assistant Senior Minister and KAPYANAN project manager Abdullah M. Cusain said the homes are equipped with solar-powered lights, water systems, solar street lighting, and concrete-lined canals. He added that the structures are designed to withstand strong winds and typhoons, ensuring long-term protection for residents.
To guide families in maintaining their homes, KAPYANAN Project Development Officer Fatima Mohammad-Malang introduced a handbook and operations manual that also covers emergency preparedness.
Part of a Broader Regional Housing Effort
The latest turnover forms part of the KAPYANAN program’s continuing rollout across the Bangsamoro region. Since its launch in 2020, nearly 3,000 housing units have been delivered across mainland and island provinces.
Cusain credited the support of former BARMM Chief Minister Murad Ebrahim and current Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua in sustaining housing initiatives.
Datu Paglas Mayor Datu Ibrahim P. Paglas IV expressed gratitude for the project, while KAPYANAN legal officer Norjanna T. Lacoto encouraged beneficiaries to care for their new homes as a foundation for a more stable future.
