Irha Mae Alfeche, the first Mindanawon to win Miss Philippines Earth, received a grand welcome with a special motorcade today, May 14, in her hometown of Matanao, Davao del Sur. The event, announced by the Matanao Tourism Office on Facebook, started at 3 p.m. from Barangay Sinaragan to Barangay Poblacion. The local community gathered to celebrate Alfeche's remarkable achievement, highlighting the pride and joy she brought to her town.
Triumphant Journey to the Crown
The 24-year-old Alfeche, a graduate in Special Needs education, triumphed over 28 candidates in this year’s Miss Philippines Earth held in Talakag, Bukidnon, marking the first time the pageant took place in Mindanao. During the competition’s question and answer portion, Alfeche was asked what she had learned from her journey that she could share with the younger generation. She responded passionately about the importance of educating the youth on preserving Mother Earth, emphasizing her commitment to being a role model in environmental protection.
Alfeche's path to victory was not without challenges. She previously competed in Miss Philippines Earth 2020 representing Davao City but did not advance to the top 30. However, her persistence and dedication paid off this year, showcasing her growth and resilience.
Future Representations and Other Winners
Alfeche will represent the Philippines in the Miss Earth 2024 pageant to be held in Vietnam, continuing her advocacy on a global stage. Alongside her, the other winners of this year’s pageant include Feliz Clareianne Thea Solomon Recentes of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte (Miss Philippines Air); Samantha Dana Bug-os of Baco, Oriental Mindoro (Miss Philippines Water); Kia Labiano of Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay (Miss Philippines Fire); and Ira Patricia Malaluan of Batangas City (Miss Philippines Ecotourism).
The community’s warm welcome and the motorcade in Matanao underscore the pride and support for Alfeche’s accomplishments. Her victory not only brings honor to her hometown but also inspires many young Filipinos to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact on the environment.
