Commuters carrying a National ID will get a little extra savings this August as the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) rolls out free rides during selected peak hours. The initiative is part of the government's observance of Global Identity Day and aims to encourage wider use of the National ID while making daily travel more affordable.
Free Peak-Hour Trips Throughout August
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that passengers may ride MRT-3 at no cost from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Wednesday on August 5, 12, 19, and 26. The same benefit will also be offered on September 16.
To qualify, commuters simply need to present a valid National ID before entering the station. The physical card, digital National ID, and printed ePhilID will all be accepted.
Registration Made More Accessible
Alongside the free ride program, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will hold National ID registration activities at the Araneta-Cubao and Taft Avenue MRT-3 stations. The onsite registration aims to make it easier for more Filipinos to apply for their National ID while using the rail line.
According to the DOTr, the initiative is part of its continuing collaboration with partner government agencies to deliver more convenient, reliable, and commuter-friendly public services.

MRT-3 connects North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City, serving thousands of passengers each day. On weekdays, the first train departs North Avenue at 4:36 a.m., while the last trip leaves at 9:30 p.m. From Taft Avenue, operations begin at 5:18 a.m., with the final northbound train departing at 10:11 p.m.
Passengers planning to travel during the promotional hours are encouraged to bring any accepted version of their National ID to enjoy the free ride.
