Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has continued its dedication to environmental sustainability with its latest nature-conservation initiative in Siniloan, Laguna. This endeavor is a part of TMP’s ongoing efforts to support and enhance local ecosystems through reforestation and community involvement.

A Collaborative Effort for a Greener Future

In collaboration with various partners, TMP successfully mobilized 56 volunteers to plant 1,000 tree seedlings in Siniloan. This initiative, which aligns with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) National Greening Program, saw active participation from TMP’s workforce, GT Capital Holdings, DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Sta. Cruz, Laguna, and the People’s Organization of Siniloan. The reforestation site, part of the Sierra Madre mountain range, is crucial for preserving the Philippines' oldest forests and endemic wildlife.

Financial Incentives for Sustainable Care

TMP has committed to providing financial compensation to the People’s Organization of Siniloan for every hectare they nurture, monitor, and maintain. The selected tree species, chosen by the DENR, are expected to contribute to the local economy through agroforestry, benefiting the community upon successful cultivation. Since the inception of this initiative in 2022, TMP has planted 21,000 out of their 25,000-target mix of native fruit-bearing and timber tree seedlings.

Part of a Global Environmental Challenge

This reforestation project is an integral part of the “All Toyota Green Wave Project,” which was launched in 2015 under the “Toyota Global Environmental Challenge 2050.” This global initiative aims to connect Toyota’s stakeholder network with nature and local communities, addressing environmental issues and supporting sustainable livelihoods. Beyond reforestation, TMP’s environmental efforts include tree and mangrove planting activities, as well as coastal and riverside clean-ups.

TMP President Masando Hashimoto emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change, stating, “Recognizing the urgency to address the current effects of climate change, Toyota is driven to actively pursue carbon neutrality and coexist in harmony with nature. I would like to express my gratitude to our partners from the DENR, the local community of Siniloan, and volunteers for dedicating their time and exerting efforts to make a climate action and impact today.
