The local administration in Camalig, Albay province, is preparing for the return of its Pinangat Festival, which was put on hold for four years due to the pandemic and the possibility of an eruption from the Mayon Volcano.

According to Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo Jr., the town is reviving the celebration next month to showcase Bicol culture and cuisine, especially Pinangat.

Pinangat is a delicious Bicol specialty made from taro leaves, chiles, and beef simmered in coconut milk and wrapped in coconut leaves.

Return of a dearly missed festival

The festival, which takes place from June 10 to June 24, is anticipated to strengthen the local economy and increase tourism, with 20,000 people expected to join.

“Baka po pwedeng may economic impact din ang mga gagawing activities para matulungan din ang mga members ng community,” said Camalig Mayor Carlos “Caloy” G. Baldo, Jr. on the return of the Pinangat Fest.

In order to prevent repetition and guarantee that the festival highlights a unique approach that could draw more guests, the Mayor also urged the festival's executive committee to plan events that are creative and novel that will emphasize regional customs, and foster a deeper appreciation for Camalig's distinct culture,
