Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto formally signed the contract for the new P9.2 billion Pasig City Hall construction project which aims to provide Pasigueños with a new city complex for the next generation.

The project was pushed when it was discovered in 2019 that City Hall had cracks and other issues. Engineers from the city were also unable to perform a proper structural examination because no records or designs for the structure were accessible.

Additionally, it was claimed that the city hall's staff and patrons were no longer safe.

Cannot be retrofitted

According to Sotto, the retrofitting plan was abandoned after experts were consulted and it was determined that building a new one was the better option.

The new Pasig City Hall complex will include three towers on a two-hectare site, with construction taking at least two to three years.

As the project's partner, the Pasig City Hall Construction Consortium has demonstrated its capabilities both domestically and internationally, according to Sotto.

City hall’s lineage

Since the 1960s, the Pasig City Hall has been standing on the same land, with a building that was a basic three-story structure back then.

The initial building was expanded by at least three more large structures, creating a nine-story jumble of beams, poles, and uneven floors.

A design-and-build contract will be used to construct the new Pasig City Hall, which will also include interiors, and even an overhaul of the computers and fiber optic cables.
