The Manila Cancer Center (MCC) will begin construction in June, according to the nation's capital city. The MCC will be built at the Ospital ng Maynila (OM) and will bear the name of the late Governor Benjamin "Kokoy" Romualdez,  according to Representative Irwin Tieng of Manila 5th District.

Opening in June

Tieng stated that he and Mayor Honey Lacuna would preside over the groundbreaking ceremonies for the five-story structure, which falls on the anniversary of the city's founding in June.

Manila will commemorate the 453rd anniversary of its establishment on June 24.

Tieng says the cancer center will also be free for all Manilenyos.

"Libre po siya sa lahat ng Manilenyo (Its services would be free for all Manilenyos)," he said.

Initial offers

Tieng stated that the MCC will initially include a linear accelerator and a CT scan to give patients non-invasive radiation therapy while funding for the facility is limited.

For the establishment of the facility, Mayor Lacuna dedicated 2,000 square meters of land inside the OM premises.

The OM is one of six public hospitals in Manila managed by the local government and offers free medical care to citizens.
