Baguio City’s streets came alive with color and creativity on Sunday, February 23, as the highly anticipated Floral Float Parade took center stage for the 2025 Panagbenga Festival. More than 40 floats, each more dazzling than the last, made their way through the streets, offering a spectacular display of flowers, art, and cultural pride. By 5 a.m., excited visitors lined the streets, with many even camping overnight to secure the best spots. The parade kicked off with floats from the Baguio City local government and the Department of Tourism, setting the tone for a day of vibrant festivities.
Showcasing the City's Spirit
The parade featured floats across small, medium, and large categories, each showcasing the creativity of local artists and communities. In the medium category, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) proudly presented its float, carrying the message "Makabagong Halalan Para sa Pilipino 2025." Comelec Chairman George Garcia was present, adding significance to the message of modernizing elections for the Filipino people. Meanwhile, the large-category floats, with their towering floral displays and meticulous designs, left the crowd in awe. These larger-than-life creations embodied the theme of "Blossom Beyond Boundaries," reflecting Baguio's growth and endless possibilities.
The parade wasn’t just about flowers—mime artists and cosplayers added a touch of fun and energy to the procession, entertaining the crowds along the way. Their performances and colorful costumes brought an extra layer of excitement to the event, making it a true celebration for people of all ages.
Celebrating Baguio’s Culture and Growth
Now in its 29th year, the Panagbenga Festival remains one of the country’s most important cultural events. This year’s theme, "Blossom Beyond Boundaries," encapsulates the spirit of the festival—growth, unity, and limitless creativity. Federico Alquiros, president of the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc., highlighted how the festival continues to inspire local and international visitors, emphasizing Baguio’s artistic spirit and sense of community. As Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said, Panagbenga has become a powerful platform for showcasing the city’s best—its culture, artistry, and heartwarming hospitality.
