La Paz, Abra, distinguished as a premier producer of high-quality loom-woven textiles known locally as Abel, showcased its mastery in the art of loom weaving during this year's Abel Festival. The streets came alive with vibrancy as local performers exhibited traditional Abel clothing, products, livelihoods, and the town's rich cultural heritage.

The One Barangay, One Product festival dance competition and float parade highlighted a diverse array of community products, including abel, fish, rice, corn, and bamboo crafts. This celebration not only honored the town's agricultural abundance but also spotlighted the diverse talents and skills of its residents.

Preserving Culture Amidst Modern Times

Beyond the promotion of local agricultural products, La Paz is unwavering in its commitment to preserving its cultural identity and the creative expression inherent in traditional loom weaving. The festival acts as a platform to adapt these traditional crafts to the changes of modern times, ensuring that the artistry and cultural significance of Abel endure for future generations.

Diverse Activities Beyond the Parade

The 2024 Abel Festival transcended the realms of parades and dance competitions. A myriad of activities such as Teachers’ Night, Bingo Bonanza, Variety Show, and Miss Gay La Paz 2024 brought diversity and entertainment to the celebration. Local businesses seized the opportunity to showcase and sell their products during the festival, fostering economic growth and community engagement.

Good Governance

Mayor JB Bernos, also the national president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, expressed gratitude for the continuous support of La Pazeños and stakeholders in government initiatives post-disasters. Despite challenges, he emphasized progress and commitment to serving the community.

Congresswoman Menchie Bernos, meanwhile, shared ongoing and upcoming projects for La Paz's local industries during Barangay Night.
