Chrisia Tajarros of Leyte has etched her name in the history books, claiming her first-ever gold medal at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City. Representing Region 8, Tajarros triumphed in the girls’ 3,000-meter run, completing a powerful redemption arc following a heartbreaking finish in last year’s edition.
A Sweet Victory
The 17-year-old runner clocked in at 10 minutes and 20.32 seconds, leaving her competitors behind and securing a decisive victory at the Cebu City Sports Center. Her win not only gave Region 8 an early lead in the medal tally but also showcased the grit and determination that have defined her journey.
"Sometimes when I train, I end up crying. But I just turned those tears into motivation to win the gold medal at the Palarong Pambansa. My dream is to join the Olympics so I can help my family," said the gold medal winner.
Last year, Tajarros fell short of the podium in the same event. That setback turned into a pivotal moment. According to interviews, she returned home with a renewed drive, training daily on uneven roads in Baybay, Leyte, often under the scorching sun or pouring rain.
“The pain and tears were worth it,” she shared in an emotional moment after the race.
The Golden Girl
The 2025 Palarong Pambansa, the largest multi-sport event for student-athletes in the Philippines, gathered thousands of athletes from across the nation. For many, it’s a stage for dreams — and for Tajarros, it became the scene of redemption and triumph.
With this victory, Chrisia Tajarros not only brought pride to Leyte and Region 8 but also inspired countless young athletes across the country. Her journey reminds everyone that with perseverance and heart, setbacks can be the beginning of something golden.
