The Philippine women's national futsal team lost to Indonesia 2-1, missing out on a victory in the ASEAN Women's Championship.

To have a chance at a bronze medal, the Pinay5 needed to either win or tie. However, Nisma Rusdiana's late goal for Indonesia with just 1:11 left in the match dashed the Philippines' hopes.

With three defeats and one draw, the Philippines concluded the five-nation competition in last place.

Disappointing finish

Fitriya Hilda gave Indonesia the lead early in the match, but Isabella Bandoja brought the Philippines an equalizer with 8:45 left in the first half.

To the chagrin of the Filipinos present, Rusdiana managed to sneak the game-winning goal when Indonesia caught the Pinay5 defense off guard in the subsequent possession.

“The team [is] very disappointed… They were so close,” Pinay5 head coach Vic Hermans said.

Still capable

The Philippines will host the FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup next year, and Hermans believes the team still has a high learning curve to overcome after their late-game performance.

Meanwhile, Vietnam defeated Thailand 2-1 to win the first-ever ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship.

Indonesia finished on the podium of the five-nation tournament after defeating Myanmar 4-1 in the bronze-medal match.
