Romania plans to open applications for its government scholarship program to citizens of non-EU nations–such as the Philippines–starting January 2025 through its "Study in Romania" program.

“The diploma is recognized all over the European Union, the spectrum of areas of studies is very diverse, from literature, engineering, acting, to cultural managers — and it’s all expenses paid,” Raduta Dana Matache, the Romanian ambassador to the Philippines, said.

Urging the Filipinos

Matache encouraged Filipinos to enroll in Bucharest's "Study in Romania" program, which covers the cost of a year-long preparation course in Romanian language.

“If you study in Romania, you will feel the dynamism of the country. The quality of living is good,” she said.

The Romanian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education provide funding for the program, which offers a sizable number of spots each year to all qualifying countries.

In January 2025, the number of spots available for the upcoming batch will be disclosed.

Cost-effective destination

Matache pointed out that while living expenses in Romania are somewhat lower than in other European countries, studying there is "very cost effective."

The ambassador went on to say that at least 81,914 applications from more than 100 nations were received in 2024, indicating how "very competitive" the process is.

Additionally, Matache stated that Romania aims to promote increased connections between Romanian and Philippine universities.
